I was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and raised in Summit, N.J., the second oldest of five boys.
I attended Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, majoring in broadcast journalism and working on the campus radio station and newspapers.
I have worked at four newspapers, one magazine and a website that covered conservative media.
I have covered several national political conventions, numerous criminal and civil court cases, national media conferences, as well as local issues ranging from education to government to breaking news.
I am the author of four books and numerous freelance articles for outlets including MediaWeek, NJ Monthly, Poynter.org, Salon.com, and NJBIZ.
I have interviewed celebrities including Donald Trump, Rupert Murdoch, O.J. Simpson, George W. Bush, and Chuck Todd. I've appeared as a media commentator for Fox News Channel, Bill O'Reilly radio show, MSNBC, Voice of America, Wisconsin Public Radio, ABC Radio Networks, SiriusXM, and National Public Radio.
I am currently a reporter for the Asbury Park Press in New Jersey and an adjunct professor at Rutgers University and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
I am married with two children and also an ordained minister, regularly offiiciating at weddings and other religious and non-religious events.
